Higher Car
Insurance for Eating, Talking
Britons could be looking
at higher auto insurance rates as new laws
that are coming through are making it
illegal to talk on cell phones or eat in
your car while you are driving. If you are
ticketed for these infractions, you could
be looking at up to £150 on your next car
insurance premiums.
Statistics show that mobile phone users
are more likely to get into car accidents
then those paying attention to the road,
and the same goes with eating. Experts say
that more and more accidents are occurring
daily because of someone trying to talk or
eat while they are operating a motor
vehicle. Car insurance companies say they
are going to start cracking down on
offenders as well.
The police say that if you are caught
talking or eating while running your car,
you will be looking at a £60 fine and
three points added to a driver's license.
People already get three points for
speeding or running a red light, but this
new fine for eating and talking will push
some people over the edge into a
non-standard car insurance bracket.
Opponents of the law say that they know
car insurance companies will be trying to
use this to make their insureds pay more
for car insurance, and that the punishment
does not fit the crime. They say that they
could be looking at up to 10,000 motorists
a year having to go into a different car
insurance bracket because of the new law.
They say that if you are charged with
either of the above offense, you may want
to look into getting with a car insurance
company that specializes in non-standard
car insurance premiums.
