UK Drivers
Close to Losing Licenses
More than a million UK
drivers are going to lose their auto
licenses if they don’t drastically change
the way they drive according to Direct
Line Car Insurance. The company researched
drivers in the UK, and found that an
inordinate number of drivers have serious
points on their licenses, and their car
insurance companies could drop them.
The UK put in 6,000 speed cameras to try
and stop people from speeding, but to no
avail. There are 4.5 drivers out there who
currently have points on their licenses,
and one in five of them are one conviction
away from losing their licenses. Over the
past twelve months that number has
increased 4%, which means more than
215,000 drivers have put themselves in
that position just over the past year.
The car insurance companies are working
with the UK to see if there can be some
sort of point system for those who are
speeding less than others. For example,
some drivers are only doing a little over
the speed limit; some are doing 10 mph or
more. They are considering giving those in
that 1-9 mph over the speed limit a break,
and not penalizing them as much as others.
If they lose their car license, and their
car insurance, more than 14% of those
drivers will likely lose their jobs as
well, so it is important for them to take
care when driving. Motorists also need to
keep in mind that it is now illegal to
drive with a cell phone or while eating –
and if they are caught doing either of
those activities their car insurance will
go up for those infractions as well.
