Brits Have High Rate of Driving Without Car Insurance

According to a recent study by MoneySupermarket.com, one in seven Brits has confessed to driving without any form of car insurance. More than 15% of those surveyed admit that they have driven a car without auto insurance within the past year.

It breaks down to those without car insurance on their car, and those driving other people’s cars. The study found that 9% drove another person’s car and did not have the proper car insurance to be driving it. They also found that 6% were driving their own car without auto insurance coverage.

According to the law, it is illegal to operate a motor vehicle without car insurance at any time. So even those that only do it now and then are still breaking the law. They also found that men were twice as likely to drive without auto insurance than women are.

Age had a lot to do with it as well. Younger drivers were more likely than older drivers to drive without car insurance. They found 23% of those in their 20’s and 20% of those in their 30’s were willing to take the risk. Only 10% of those over 50 had taken the risk.

It seems that the group that is the highest risk for having a ar accident – young males in their 20’s and 30’s – are also the ones risking driving without car insurance. According to experts, it is a costly mistake – if they are found driving without auto insurance – they will be looking at fines, points on their license, and possible car confiscation.
