Arguments for Health Care are Same for
Auto Insurance
There are
some that have watched the debate over
health care with much amusement. They
say that the country should not have the
ability to mandate that people have
health care. They say that it is up to
the individual as to whether or not they
want to have health care insurance, and
the government and their states do not
have the right to do anything else about
it.
But where does auto insurance come in
then? Many want to know that if it is
not the government’s position to tell
you when to get auto insurance, and to
require that you have it if you own a
car, then why do we have it? They argue
that people have been paying for auto
insurance for years and making it a law
hasn’t changed anything in terms of
personal rights – but it has made the
roads a safer place. If you get into an
accident with someone and they don’t
have auto insurance you really get the
short end of the stick – and have to pay
for much of it yourself, or your auto
insurance company does. If you are
running, operating, etc. a motor vehicle
you have to take responsibility for that
car and get auto insurance.
The same goes for yourself as a person.
They argue that if you get sick and want
to go to a hospital, etc. it is not the
hospital’s job to pay for you to get
well. It is not their job to ensure that
you get the care you need if you do not
have health insurance. Auto insurance
and health insurance are the same idea –
they are there to protect us when
something happens that we have no
control over, and both should be
mandated by the government.
