Lives and Money with New Device
It seems that the auto
insurance companies are now in the
business of monitoring their customer’s
driving habits, or at least they are able
to in Alabama. There is a new device on
the market, and fast drivers had better
watch out.
The device is being rolled out by
Progressive Insurance and is called the
My-Rate device. It is attached to cars
under their dashboard, and monitors how
fast you drive your car. The device can
instantly transmit data regarding your
driving habits to the car insurance
company.
The new technology is called telematics,
and Progressive is not the only one
looking into using it. There are several
auto insurance companies developing
similar devices of their own, and they say
that they will have theirs available
shortly.
Progressive has been using their device
since the end of June, and for now all it
tells them is how fast you drive your car.
Eventually, the car insurance company says
that the device will also be able to tell
them where you are and how you are
driving. It won’t work on anyone’s vehicle
but your own, and will only work on
specific cars.
