Bad Credit Car Loans

There are things that you can do to help yourself before you try to get an auto loan. Many times a consumer will walk into a car dealership with no idea really of how much they can afford or what sort of credit score they have. Walking in blind to try and get an auto loan will never help you attain what you need. Instead, by doing a little homework before you walk into trying to get an auto loan will save you time and effort in the long run, especially if you know that you have bad credit.

The first thing you want to do is consider how much you can truly take on in an auto loan. Once you know how much you can afford for a monthly payment multiply that out by the number of years that you are looking to have an auto loan payment. If you can only afford $200 a month and want a three-year auto loan, then you know that you cannot have a loan for more than $7200. This auto loan must include all taxes and fees and interest, so you know that the car you are looking for is substantially less than that amount.

You also need to find out what your credit score is before you apply for an auto loan. If you have a credit score of more than 640 and you have a pretty good credit history that includes a previous auto loan, then you know that you are getting a pretty good deal on an auto loan from the dealer. Anything below that and you are probably looking at a subprime loan which means a higher interest rate, and also means less money that you can spend on a car.

Many times it makes sense to go online or go to a credit union and get the amount of money that you can afford to take out on a car loan. Walking in with cash not only increases your buying power, but it also lets them know that this is how much money you have to get an auto loan with and nothing more. If they want you to get a more expensive automobile than what you can afford based on the terms of the auto loan that you have already set up, then they are going to have to give you it as you have no more money to give them.
