Allstate Increase Not Enough

The financial toll of being in the car insurance business showed its head today. Many car insurance companies have been trying to compete in an already saturated world of auto insurance options – and have been trying not to increase the amount that they charge their consumers so that they can stay in the game. However, that is getting harder and harder for them to do.

The amount lost on everyday auto accidents combined with things like hurricanes, have cost the auto insurance companies dearly. Allstate is a prime example of the problems that most of them are having. Because of the amount of competition, they were limited on how much they could charge for their policies.

However once you factor in the costs for the car insurance company, Allstate lost money as the amount that they increased their policies by was not enough to cover the losses that they experienced. Progressive also had problems when it came to the end of the year. They too had not increased their policies enough to cover losses.

This is starting to become an alarming trend among auto insurance companies, and unfortunately they cannot continue increasing premiums to cover their losses as most states put a limit on the amount that you can charge. If this becomes the norm, then we will start seeing auto insurance companies unable to keep up and closures will be inevitable.
