Changing Auto Loan Image
The
Centurion Bank of Punjab is trying to
change the way that people view them. They
are seen as having their primary focus on
auto loans, and now they want to move into
other areas of retail banking. They know
that all this time their focus was auto
loans, but they hope that customers will
now start to see them as something more.
Vivek Vig, Country Head, CBofP, says that
even though their “legacy” has been auto
loans, they find that it is time to branch
out into other areas. They are going to be
handling more features, different
features, than what they have used before.
They are adding “mobile money transfer,
internet banking, etc.” in addition to a
slew of other things that they think their
customers might benefit from.
They say that currently 10% of their bank
portfolio is tied up in uto loans, and
they think that this is the perfect time
to diversify. They also think that now
might be the time to start giving some of
their rivals a run for their money.
Vig says that although they have given
“extra” attention to auto loans up until
now, in the last three years or so they
have been looking elsewhere. He says that
they have been working to change their
image for some time now; that this is not
an overnight decision on behalf of the
bank.
