Insurance, Don't leave home without it!

Most states require that you have auto insurance on your car, truck, or van.   Most banks require auto insurance before you receive an auto loan.  Depending on the price paid for a used car, you should ask about full coverage insurance prices.  Laws differ from state to state. The sites listed below will help you with the laws in your state and give you free quotes.

North Dakota Looking to Make Changes

North Dakota is walking a precarious line when it comes to auto insurance. There are those that think that more car insurance is needed, but there are also those that are aware that if limits are raised there will be many more within the state that will not be able to afford the new premiums.

The state has not raised their limits in more than twenty-four years and although many agree that the auto insurance limits should be raised, they just don’t agree that this is the time. They argue that should limits and thus rates be raised now, you are going to be looking at a lot more people without auto insurance. They argue that lower, and yes, perhaps somewhat inadequate coverage might be better than no coverage at all.

The House Transportation Committee recommended that the idea of raising the minimums be postponed at the very least was defeated when it came down to a vote. Representatives in the House voted 51-43 to double the minimum coverage for auto insurance policies.

The bill will now go to the North Dakota Senate who will vote on it, and many are hoping that it is defeated. They say that those that already have car insurance that are barely able to pay it now will no longer be able to pay it at all. They also argue that those that don’t have any won’t be able to get any at the increased rates. This will lead to even more uninsured motorists in the state.
