State Farm
Angers Many in Florida
State Farm recently announced that they
would no longer be offering personal
property insurance for the state of
Florida. This is very upsetting to those
that have had them for years, and they
feel as though the insurance company has
let them down. Many of them have their
auto insurance policies, as well as life
and home insurance policies all with State
Farm.
Consumers say that if State Farm is
allowed to take personal property
insurance off the table in the state, that
they will be switching all of their
policies. They say that they are aware
that they get multi line discounts with
most insurance policies, so why would they
keep their auto insurance with a company
that does not value their business?
For their part, the State of Florida has
told State Farm not so fast on the move
out, for Florida law says that if you
offer multi line coverage – house, life,
car insurance, etc. then you have to offer
all of them within their state. They
cannot pick and choose what they are going
to offer, they have to offer all of it.
They say that if they are not willing to
offer homeowners insurance, then they are
not going to be able to offer life or auto
insurance anymore either.
The auto insurance company has been issued
a subpoena to appear in front of the House
Insurance, Business and Financial Affairs
Policy Committee to discuss the letter
sent out to homeowners. However, many of
those that got the letter say that they
are not going to wait to see the outcome,
nor are they waiting the year. They say
that if they want to leave they can go,
but they won’t be leaving their auto
insurance with them.
