There is an interesting company called Pointer Telocation, which is responsible for developing and supplying those technologies that enable you to find your car if it should be stolen. The also handle road side assistance, vehicle towing, stolen vehicle retrieval, and fleet management – all part of your auto insurance.

Yossi Ben Shalom is the Chairman of pointer, and he says that they really have three basic sets of technologies that they supply. The first is the RF or Radio Frequency system which enables them to locate your car. It does not cost a lot to operate which is why they are able to offer it to the standard auto insurance policy.

They have also combined GPS and GPRS together to create cellular units. Shalom says that it has a “high sensitivity to both power and air time consumption.” They have more than a hundred thousand units out there already and they have the ability to work internationally.

Finally they have Command and Control – which is their system for fleet management and stolen vehicle recovery. Anyone can purchase the system to give them peace of mind. The ordinary car owner, auto insurance companies, etc. all have access to purchasing the ability to find their car wherever it might be.

These options allow their clients to also get breaks on their auto insurance, depending on the company they are with. Auto insurance companies like to see that their consumers are being pro-active in attempting to protect their cars and reward them accordingly.
