Is It Possible to Not Pay an Arm and a
Leg?
Everyone knows that there are certain
things that will affect how much you pay
for your auto insurance. If you are
prone to accidents or speeding tickets –
your auto insurance rates are going to
be higher than someone’s who is not. If
you drive a sports car you are going to
pay more for your auto insurance policy
than someone who drives a four door
sedan. If you live in a crime filled
area then you are going to pay more for
your auto insurance than if you live in
a nice safe suburb. The list goes on and
on.
However, there is one thing that all
drivers with children have to some day
worry about no matter where they live or
what they drive – and that is adding a
teenager to their auto insurance policy.
The fact of the matter is that if you
have a teenager who is now ready to
start driving, you are going to be
looking at a significant increase in
your auto insurance rates to add them
onto your policy.
Teenagers are not considered the most
experienced drivers – which is why their
auto insurance rates are so high. But
there are things that you can do to
cushion the blow for you. For starters
if you have a daughter you will pay less
than if you have a son. Now, you don’t
have control over this fact, but it is
nice to know that you might get a little
break there. But there are other things
that you do have control over when it
comes to your auto insurance policy. You
can get your child a safer car – a sedan
or four door car instead of an SUV or a
sports car; you can have them take a
driver safety class which will give you
a discount on your auto insurance; you
can make sure that they do well in
school for kids with higher grades pay
less than those kids that don’t.
You can also pay your premiums up front
to avoid billing fees that come with
many auto insurance policies. You can
get a higher deductible so that if they
are in an accident you will pay more
then, but you will also get a lower auto
insurance rate in the meantime. Know
that eventually as they get older they
will cost you less for your auto
insurance policy, and eventually they
will be on their own all together.
