Electronic
Auto Insurance Claim System
According to the
Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC), the new
Ontario Health Claims for Auto Insurance (HCAI)
is going to make filing and taking care of
claims for auto insurance faster, easier,
and simply more efficient. They say that
the new electronic medical/rehabilitation
claims system will be fully implemented by
next February, and once it is it will be
the “best in the world.”
They say that simply speaking, it will
streamline the entire auto insurance
claims system by making it electronic. You
get hurt in an auto accident, you go to a
neighborhood medical clinic, the doctor
assigned to you goes over medical
treatment plan with you, and you agree.
The AA at the clinic then logs into the
HCAI, maps out the treatment plan and cost
and sends it to the auto insurance
company.
The auto insurance company looks at the
file and checks the recommendations, and
can also compare pricing to see if it is
the most cost effective way to treat the
injury. They can then decide to approve,
partially approve, or reject the claim.
That info goes back to the doctor and the
insured, and everyone knows exactly where
they stand.
By February 1st of next year all of
Ontario’s auto insurance issuers will be
required to enroll in the program, thereby
cleaning up the entire auto insurance
health claims system. For now it is
voluntary, but as of the deadline it will
be mandatory. Several auto insurance
companies have already signed up for the
system claiming that it will save billions
in the long run.
