The state of New Jersey
is known for several things, and one of
them is their strict and expensive auto
insurance. However, they are also known
for the number of complaints that the
state has gotten in recent years due to
problems with their auto insurance and the
auto insurance companies. But according to
the state, that has changed.
The state of New Jersey had been receiving
thousands of complaints about auto
insurance in the state, and chose to
reform their regulations of the auto
insurance industry back in 2003. It seems
that the changes that the state made have
made a difference. State officials say
that since they made the auto insurance
changes the number of complaints has
dropped drastically.
The state recently released the 2006 Auto
Insurance Consumer Information Report,
which yearly ranks the auto insurance
companies by the ratio of valid complaints
to the number of vehicles insured by the
company. This year the worst was AIG
Centennial Group, they had a ratio of
1.441. Nine auto insurance companies had
no valid complaints and were tied for 29th
on the list.
The state says they have seen a
substantial drop in the number of
complaints that they have gotten; they had
more than 6,000 in 2003 and reported 3,035
in 2006. The state says that overall they
are showing that consumers are much
happier with the state of auto insurance
regulations than they have ever been
before.
