eNatis
Affecting Auto Insurance
For all of you who have
been affected by the eNatis mess, you can
breathe a little easier tonight. According
to short term auto insurance ombudsman
Brian Martin, auto insurance companies are
going to have to work harder to be able to
reject your claims. So those that have
been driving on expired licenses because
of it, can relax some.
Auto insurance companies are now going to
have to show better proof before they
reject a claim because the driver had a
expired license when they were in the
accident. Because of eNatis, they are not
going to be able to just outright reject
auto insurance claims because of expired
licenses.
Martin said that the auto insurance
companies were going to have to convince
him that there was a really good reason
for rejecting the auto insurance claim due
to it. He said that if there was no
license at all, then of course the claim
was to be rejected. However, if a license
exists and the auto insurance claim is
rejected, they would probably not support
the decision.
Other auto insurance companies have said
something similar, in that they will be
looking at those claims where the renewal
was returned in a timely manner, and
treating them more “sympathetically”
because of it. Martin said it is important
for drivers to renew their licenses well
in advance of any expiration dates.
Lawyers say that the auto insurance
companies are going to have a hard time
telling them that they would not process a
claim when the person did not have a
license through no fault of their own.
