PIP Should Stay

Many people are excited that PIP, or Personal Injury Protection, will no longer be required in the state of Florida for drivers to have on their car insurance. However, many of those same people have not truly looked at the ramifications of what the Florida legislature has done here.

By no longer requiring PIP they have essentially made it legal for many residents to not carry car insurance at all. They have eliminated mandated auto insurance for the entire state, and those that are responsible are going to pay the price for it.

The car insurance companies have been saying that they will be able to cut rates because of the lack of PIP, however with the increase in uninsured drivers those with auto insurance will be looking at increased rates instead.

They will also be paying for all of those without health insurance when end up in accidents and end up in the emergency room. This all ultimately comes down on those that are responsible enough to get their car insurance renewed, as they will be the ones paying the higher rates.

With the new law in effect, as of October 1st drivers will no longer have to show that they have auto insurance to register their cars, and therefore many will feel that they don’t have to get auto insurance at all. This will only add to the amount that those with car insurance are paying, and therefore ultimately end up in many of them dropping their coverage as car insurance rates get too high for them to afford as well.
