Ways to
Work Plan Works
Arlington
Chamber Foundation, the McKnight
Foundation of Wisconsin and the U.S.
Transportation Department have gotten
together to create the Arlington Chamber
Foundation’s Ways to Work program. The
program makes it possible for working
families to get car loans.
The program is set up for those that might
not qualify to be able to get an auto loan
and hence an auto so that they can get to
work more easily. Families apply through
the foundation for a two year auto loan of
$4,000 to buy a used car.
The supporters of the program say that by
enabling those who couldn’t normally get
an auto loan get one, they are both
enabling their financial while increasing
economic development. The foundation says
that by these people not being able to get
a car loan, and thus a car, it has been a
“barrier” to their success in becoming
self-sufficient.
They expect to be able to close on at
least 23 auto loans in the next 14 weeks,
and they think that they will be
successful in closing more than 100 auto
loans over the next two years. The Ways to
Work program has been successful already
in the eyes of those who have already
gotten car loans, for they know that they
have already been able to get better jobs
because of their auto loans. They say the
8% auto loan that they get is much better
than the high interest rate auto loans
they have been looking at.
