It seems that American
International Group and Vermont Mutual
have decided to start selling auto
insurance in Massachusetts. The two large
auto insurance carriers are going to be
offering personal auto insurance policies
in the state by the fourth quarter of this
year.
Vermont Mutual’s CEO Thomas Tierney told
the Insurance Journal that they feel that
Massachusetts was a great opportunity for
them to bring more options to their agents
and policyholders.
Their company already sells homeowners and
business owner’s insurance plans in the
state. They also service Maine, New
Hampshire and Vermont – but they say that
the options for their company in
Massachusetts now that the auto insurance
market has been deregulated are unlimited.
These auto insurance companies are not
alone in their thinking, as there are many
others who are following suit. The state’s
Insurance Commissioner says that they
expect many other companies to come in
over the next few months as well.
