Are Monitoring Systems What They are Cracked Up to Be?

In this day and age there are many different things that you can get on your automobile in order to not only cut back on the amount of auto insurance that you might pay, but to also make it so that you have a better chance of getting your car back if stolen, or keeping it from getting stolen in the first place. There are many ways of protecting your car, everything from engine shut offs to loud alarms, and so on. Drivers get these additions as they don’t want to see their rates on their auto insurance go up should they happen to have a car stolen.

But what if you are having some sort of system implanted in your car on purpose so that you can have it monitored. There are many companies now offering this Pay as You Drive programs where you only pay for the number of miles that you have driven. This means that you are paying less money than someone who is simply paying a standard fee for their auto insurance policy and it is a great way to save money – if you don’t drive a lot. This system tells the auto insurance company how much you have been driving and they charge you accordingly.

However, now it seems that there are auto insurance companies that are using this technology for other purposes. These monitoring programs can also tell the auto insurance company not just how much you drive, but how you drive period. They then use this information to determine how they are going to charge you and rate you for your auto insurance policy. This is not necessarily what many people signed up for and there are some that are very upset that they are being monitored when they are driving.
