Four Arrested for Auto Insurance Fraud
When you choose to get involved in auto
insurance fraud, you are not just
hurting yourself – you are hurting
everyone who has auto insurance with the
company that you are defrauding. This is
the most important thing that a criminal
has to remember. Quite often they think
of it as though they are ripping off an
auto insurance company and that they can
afford it so what is the big deal?
However, that auto insurance company
pays those quotes and then to keep
themselves solvent they increase the
rates for everyone in your area because
the risk factors go up for a specific
area every time there is a claim there.
That is why so many people are quick to
turn in those that are breaking the auto
insurance laws as they know that they
will have to pay the difference when
these fraudulent claims are filed. The
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner
has announced the arrest of four people
in conjunction with an auto insurance
scheme that netted them more than
$9,000. Derrick Vontrell Lewis, Tanish
Learnell Williams, Angela Harris
Williams, and Sharon Williams Davis,
were all arrested in conjunction with
the scheme. They were charged with
various felony counts ranging from auto
insurance fraud and conspiracy to
obtaining property by false pretense.
Because of the claims that the auto
insurance companies paid out they were
given a total pay out of $9,328.52. The
Department of Insurance has law
enforcement officers who investigate
claims of auto insurance fraud. They say
that an estimated ten cents of every
dollar in auto insurance premiums paid
goes to fraud, so if they can stop these
fraudulent claims then they can cut
premiums.
