Auto Insurance Reporting

 
 
Washington DC usually prides themselves on being ahead of the pack when it comes to certain things. They believe that they are better suited for bringing in the new and showing the rest of the country how they are ahead of the curve when it comes to many things. One of those things right now happens to be auto insurance. They are looking at changing the way that they handle their existing compulsory auto insurance coverage reporting practices and some think that this is the perfect time to change the program and make it more efficient.
 
According to the auto insurance industry there is a better way of checking to see if someone has a valid auto insurance policy – and all they have to do is switch to an internet based survey. The City Council’s Committee on Public Services and Consumer Affairs said that they thought that the new web based auto insurance system would not just allow them to know when someone had auto insurance, but it would also offer greater protections of privacy for those consumers. They said that it would also “greatly reduce the lag time between when information is submitted and when it is used for confirmation of coverage” according to Property Casualty Insurers Association of America.
 
The new bill that they would like to see passed would require all auto insurance companies to provide their full book of business to the DMV on a monthly basis so that the system could be kept updated.
