Man Jumps to Avoid Auto Loan
Talk about
drastic measures to avoid paying your car
loan…
Rakesh Gulab Singh was fleeing police when
he leapt to his death from a running
train. Singh was being pursued by police
because he had defaulted on his car loan.
Singh was a resident of Rawalpada in
Borivali, and had defaulted on a car loan
for Rs 4.5 lakh and was being pursued so
that the police could get the car back.
The lender, Global Finances, Inc. had
tried to get Singh to pay the car loan,
but Singh did not, which led to the
company contacting the police to gain the
car back. The police originally arrested
the man on May 23rd.
Then Singh told the police that a relative
had the car, and they were located in
Mirzapur. On May 26th the police took
Singh to go recover the car from his
relatives. They boarded the Kamyani
Express bound for Mirzapur. However, on
May 27th, while on board the train, Singh
told the police he had to use the
restroom, and made a break for it. He
jumped off of the running train near the
Manikpur train station.
Singh was injured and taken to the
hospital, but was pronounced dead upon
arrival. It is assumed that Singh was
merely trying to escape, but it is not
known whether or not he actually intended
to kill himself to escape the car loan
debt and the recovery of the car.
