Wisconsin Motorists Must Have Auto
Insurance
If you thought that it was the law all
around the United States that you have
to have auto insurance, it would appear
that this is not necessarily the case.
Wisconsin just passed a law that says
that all of their drivers have to have
proof of auto insurance when they are
driving. This comes as a shock to many
who thought that this was a nationwide
law, but it varies per state not just
how much auto insurance you have to
have, but also whether or not you even
have to have it.
In many states, it is a given that you
have to have your auto insurance card if
you are pulled over. The ticket varies,
but quite often it is somewhere around
$10 when you pay the fine and show your
card before the due date. After the due
date it can be $40 and up, and you still
have to show your auto insurance card or
your license will be suspended. Now, a
police officer cannot pull you over to
see if you have an auto insurance card,
but if you are stopped for another
violation and do not have it on you, you
are looking at big bucks in Wisconsin.
The state has decided that if you want
to drive without insurance you are going
to pay through the nose. If you have
your auto insurance policy but no card
on you, you can pay $10 and show your
card. But if you do not have auto
insurance when you get pulled over you
are looking at a $500 fine depending on
where you are caught. If you lie and say
you have auto insurance but don’t
really, you will be looking at up to
$5,000 in fines.
