State Required Auto Insurance Minimums
Depending on the state that you live in
you will need a certain amount of auto
insurance for your car. The amounts
truly vary per state and sometimes per
area of the state and they can be a bit
pricy. Some states are better about
their auto insurance rates – and others
like New Jersey are at the high end of
the spectrum when it comes to pricing.
But are your state’s requirements what
you need? Unfortunately you don’t
usually find this out until you are in
an accident.
The state’s job is to ensure that all
residents have taken out certain auto
insurance minimums to keep them from
getting in trouble if they are in over
their heads when they are in an
accident. But those minimums do not
always do you justice, and sometimes you
find that you actually need more than
the minimum. The minimum is to make auto
insurance affordable for everyone, but
that does not mean it is all you need.
First you need to contact your auto
insurance agent to see what the minimums
are; you should already have them on
your car. Then talk to them about your
financial situation and your car – as
well as your driving habits. They might
find that you need exactly what you
have, or they might recommend something
better for your specific auto insurance
needs. Sometimes these auto insurance
limits will leave you in a bind should
you get in an accident and it is better
to know before that accident happens.
