Colorado Car Insurance Needs Assistance
The way the law is
reading these days in Colorado, you could
be in some serious trouble if you are hit
by someone and they are not covered
enough. You could be hit by someone in the
rear, perhaps, and end up with some major
medical bills. If you have health care,
then you could get some of it covered by
your insurance company, but what about all
of those people who don’t have health
insurance?
Well, those are the people in for the
biggest amount of trouble. They cannot use
health insurance, and under the new law
that Colorado has, if the other driver
does not have enough insurance to cover
your medical needs – even though they were
at fault – you could be in for some major
medical bills.
Their former no-fault system that they had
would have allowed your insurance company
to pay the bills up to a certain amount,
usually somewhere around $100,000.
However, with the new system, the at-fault
driver has to pay for the payment. So you
have to sue them to get the money, but if
they don’t have it, you are the one
listening to the creditors calling for
their money.
The car insurance companies say that the
old system was full of fraud, where things
like massages, etc. were being covered for
rehabilitation, and that the auto
insurance companies had to pay for them.
So instead, state lawmakers changed the
system and left people at the mercy of the
person who hit them. Drivers can pay for
optional medical insurance in case they
are hit by someone with no money, but most
insurance companies dissuade you from
doing that because it will cost you more
money on your premiums.
