Road Deaths Among Young Increase
Insurance
Because of the high
number of fatalities and serious injuries
that the insurance companies have been
seeing among the young, many companies
have been increasing the rates for those
that fall into that danger category.
Co-Operative Insurance is among those
companies that is considering an increase.
CIS has said that the accidents of those
under 25 have greatly increased to the
point that every day there are 35 people
killed or seriously injured in accidents
involving 15 to 25 year olds. They said
they realize that it is not fair that
those that are responsible drivers should
have to bear the brunt of those that
aren’t, but they are going to have to.
On average, younger drivers already pay
22% more for their insurance than they did
in 2004 – even though the difference in
costs is only 2% on average. They say that
with the trend continuing the way it has
been, soon younger drivers will have to
stop driving as they will not be able to
afford the insurance. They also say that
the danger is young people getting out on
the road without insurance because they
can’t afford it.
They say one of the biggest things that
will help bring down the numbers is road
safety programs that educate young people
to the dangers of driving unsafely in a
car. They need to understand that it isn’t
just a vehicle; it is an instrument of
death when put in the wrong hands.
