Tighter
Auto Insurance Laws Requested
A Connecticut association
wants it made perfectly clear that they
are not going to settle for auto insurance
companies violating any more laws or
rules. They say that the auto insurance
companies currently pick and choose which
cars they will fix and which ones they
wont, and they want legislators to say
that they should not be able to made
random determinations.
The Auto Body Association of Connecticut
is behind the request, and they are
requesting that new laws be drawn up that
would prevent them from choosing which
cars are fixable and where they would be
fixed. They say that companies like
Progressive are “coercing” their customers
to go to places that they say, and are not
giving them the opportunity to choose for
themselves.
They say that the laws that dictate how
things are to be handled are inadequate
and need to be changed. They also say that
their auto insurance claims center
regularly takes cars apart to see what is
wrong with them and that they do not have
the legal right to do so. They say that
auto body places have to get licensed and
pay fees to have the ability to do that,
and that the claims centers do not have
the necessary paperwork completed and
filed.
Progressive says that the accusations are
exaggerated and inflammatory against the
company. They say that they only take
pieces of the cars apart to try and save
their customers time and effort when
trying to get a claim filed. The
association says that the car insurance
company is using non-original parts as
well, which poses a safety problem for
owners.
