Auto
Insurance Needs Repair
Florida car insurance is
looking at a possibly drastic change, as
their Personal Injury Protection Law is
about to expire in October if the
legislature does not extend the law. There
was a bill that came to ex Governor Jeb
Bush that would have extended it, however
he did not like the way it was written so
he vetoed it.
The bill was supposed to fix the court
system in Florida and reduce auto
insurance rates for residents, all by
settling a no-fault system of dealing with
auto claims. However, there are problems
within the program that have not been
fixed.
For example, it has become one of the most
expensive programs in the country, because
it just isn’t working the way it should.
Auto insurance is higher, and people are
still suing for what is not covered by
PIP. We are now supporting a system that
is broken, and is full of fraud.
The auto insurance companies have already
said that if the law goes away, they will
be able to reduce the amount of money that
residents are currently paying on their
car insurance rates. They say that they
will be able to save dual car households
almost $350 a year in car insurance rates.
Some think that we should follow New
Jersey’s car laws, as they have some of
the best car insurance clauses in the
country. They currently do not allow
anyone who does not have the basic
insurance requirements to sue as they are
driving illegally. Therefore they would be
required to pay if they are at fault, and
they would get nothing if they aren’t.
