Oakland
County Auto Insurance Ring
At least a dozen auto
repair shops in Detroit and the suburbs
have been running an auto insurance scam
on their customers, according to Michigan
Attorney General Mike Cox. The Attorney
General says that the Oakland County
residents accused of running the auto
insurance ring brought in millions for
themselves and sometimes their willing
customers.
The accused enhanced collision damage to
defraud auto insurance companies, and
sometimes the customers were in on it as
well. Other times they did it without the
clients’ knowledge, damaging cars or
stealing and replacing air bags so that
they could claim more from the auto
insurance company.
The ringleader of the group, Norman Dehko,
faces 41 charges ranging from racketeering
and forgery to auto insurance fraud. His
bond was set at $500,000. His brother,
Dickow Dehko, and his mother, Latifa Dehko,
ad a friend, Fred Binnocqschmitt, are all
charged with similar offenses.
Dickow Dehko faces 34 charges and has his
bond set at $250,000; their mother’s is
set at $100,000 and faces 17 charges; and
Fred faces seven charges with a bond set
at $50,00. The main shop for the auto
insurance fraud was the Somerset Auto Shop
on John R.
