Auto
Insurance Going Up
Community Speed Watch (CSW)
teams are cracking down on fast drivers,
and those caught will not only pay fines
and risk prosecution but they will also be
looking at higher auto insurance rates as
well. Surrey is tired of the number of
speeders in their town and have decided to
do something about it.
The CSW has been set up by the Surrey
Police and is working with them as well as
trained volunteers to use speed monitoring
equipemtn to catch speeders. Once they
have identified a speeder, they will send
out letters to the offenders.
There will be two types of letters sent
out, one will be yellow and will be a
warning to drivers to clean up their act.
They will be warned of the consequences of
continuing to speed, and if they continue
to speed they will get a red letter. The
red letters warn them that they are going
to be prosecuted by the Surrey Police for
failing to stop speeding, and that their
car insurance will go up as a result of
it.
There have been more than 3,500 letters
gone out over the past year and a half,
and Surrey Police are more than pleased
with the work they have done. They have
seen the number of speeders drop since the
team started, and it has spawned other
communities to do the same.
