The California Insurance
Commissioner, Steve Poizner, has decided
that it is high time something is done
about car insurance fraud. He is going
after those that try to cheat the car
insurance system out of money that is not
due them, and is cracking down on it
across the state.
Poizner says that the number of car
insurance claims that are fraudulent in
the state of California cost each CA
consumer roughly $500 extra a year for
their car insurance. He says that car
insurance fraud is just “rampant” in
California, and that he is going to drive
down the current costs of car insurance in
the state by attacking fraudulent
activities aggressively.
He has only been in office 100 days, but
has already arrested several for car
insurance fraud, including the breakup of
a car insurance fraud ring in Santa Clara
County – where two men would stage
accidents and file insurance claims for
them. He also saw five arrests in Orange
County for five separate car insurance
fraud cases.
He says fraud has been ignored in the
state so long that it has become a major
problem for the state. He says they are
going to start going after high profile
cases so that people know that they are
watching them, and they are coming for
them.
