Car
Insurance Going Up
Arkansas is looking to
increase their car insurance rates, which
is making a lot of people very unhappy.
Drivers in the state already feel that
they pay more than enough for their auto
insurance, and they think that any sort of
increase to that premium is just too much.
However, a new bill that was just amended
today will increase each car insurance
policy by $12.00. The amendment was
created to pay for a new statewide trauma
network that the state is looking to
build.
Democratic Representative Denny Sumpter
introduced the bill, and it may increase
car insurance, but it will also raise
about $25 million a year. That money is
going to be matched by federal funds, and
will enable the trauma system to be
created.
The Senate Public Health Committee
listened to testimony before deciding if
the car insurance increase was worth it.
They listened to stories of traumatic car
accidents and how they currently have to
go to the Med in Memphis in order to get
the best treatment. This new system will
enable them to increase coverage over the
rest of the system.
The House has already passed the car
insurance increase, and the Senate is
looking to approve it as well – but they
want some minor changes to the bill before
they sign off on it. Residents may not be
happy about the increase in their car
insurance, but if they are ever in a
serious accident they will be glad they
paid for it.
