Car Insurance Woes

Some people are finding that they are having difficulties finding someone to allow them to purchase car insurance for their vehicle. Once a car reaches a certain age, most car insurance carriers do not want to take on the liability and therefore choose not to insure the car.

Drivers want to know why the car insurance companies have the right to deny them coverage, especially since they have to have car insurance in order to drive. They say that the car insurance companies should not have the right to deny them based on what they drive – especially since it is illegal to drive without it.

They say that it is discriminatory to tell them that they can’t have car insurance because they don’t drive a brand new car – or even a recent used one. If they were being denied because they had terrible driving records, that would be one thing, but not because of what they choose to drive.

There are some car insurance companies that will handle the older cars, but you will pay more for an older car than you would for a newer model. They have had studies that show that cars built before 1984 have a much higher risk of accident than those built later. Some has to do with improvements on maneuverability; some of it has to do with the fact that older vehicles have less safety provisions than newer ones.
