Does Car
Insurance Cover Hail?
It is very rare that a
South Floridian will ever see hail – up
North they see it all the time. However,
once in a while, you will get hail down
here. Last time I remember hearing it was
right before Hurricane Charley I think
came roaring through, either that or it
was the other one that summer.
But on that rarest of occasions when the
hail does decide to drop out of the sky
and onto your automobile – what do you do
about getting the small dents that are now
all over your car taken care of? Is this
something your car insurance will cover,
or do you need to pay for it out of your
own pocket?
Well, it turns out that it is covered by
car insurance. If you have comprehensive
coverage on your auto insurance policy
that you are covered for things like
theft, fire, flooding, vandalism, and yes
– hail. So call your car insurance agent
and they will tell you if you have the
proper coverage to have it taken care of.
One small thing though, you have to find
out what your deductible is. If it is a
large deductible you may want to get a
quote from a body shop to see what it
might cost you out of pocket to fix
something like that. If it is going to be
a whole lot, then the deductible is worth
it, but if not, you may want to pay it out
of pocket.
The reason I say this is because any sort
of claim on your car insurance is bad,
they can raise your rates or drop you if
need be, only because they will have
actually had to pay something instead of
just taking your money – and everyone
knows that when car insurance companies
have to pay out they make you pay more.
