Underwriter
Error
It as become a real
epidemic for car insurance holders – they
have car insurance, they have paid their
premiums, but they are not getting credit
for the fact that they have the insurance.
The problem is not with those with the car
insurance, it is with those that are too
slow in updating their records.
The problem is with the underwriters
getting the policies written and submitted
in time. It stems from the automatic
license plate recognition, which the
police use to check to see if the motorist
has car insurance and or current
registration. If the do not have that,
they will be pulled over, fined, and their
cars can be seized. The underwriters
either wait to post that the policy has
been renewed, or they take too long to
process it, and therefore the insured ends
up in hot water because of the program
that the police use to check it.
According to industry analysts, there are
hundreds of customers affected by this
every year. Then it gets worse if the
motorist cannot think of the name of their
car insurance, because then the police are
sure that they are guilty. If they renew
right before the date of renewal, they
will show up as delinquent for at least a
month.
It isn’t just an inconvenience for the
drivers, it puts them at serious risk for
being taken to court for not having car
insurance. They could end up with fines or
other legal ramifications because of it.
