Motorists Pay More
To put it in a nutshell,
those that have car insurance are paying
for those that don’t. Drivers that do not
have valid car insurance polices are
causing an increase in the premiums of
those that do.
When motorists are involved in an
accident, someone needs to pay for the
damages. If you have car insurance, that
would be your car insurance company.
However, if you don’t have car insurance,
then the other person’s auto insurance
kicks in.
With underinsured or uninsured motorists
driving around and getting in accidents,
someone is responsible for those payments.
If they have the money, obviously they pay
for the repairs. But if they don’t have
car insurance than your auto insurance
company is going to have to pay for your
repairs and then go after the other person
to try and get the money.
This leads to an increase in what are
usually already high premiums. Somewhere
down the line, someone is going to have to
pay for the money that goes out, and it
isn’t going to be the auto insurance
company. They simply pass that expense
onto those that have insurance.
