Getting a
Car Loan Can Be Easy
It wasn’t
that long ago that all the financial
experts were hollering for people to not
get loans, and to save their money. They
said that the days of subprime auto loans
were over and that if you didn’t have a
pretty close to perfect credit score then
you could forget about ever getting a car
loan again. And this is how it has gone
for a while now, but things are changing.
The auto loan industry knows that they
have a limited number of people that they
can hit up for money if they limit the
credit scores that they are willing to
take. They know that the days of perfect
scores are gone because so many people
have lost jobs, their homes, etc. but they
still need a car. In trying to eliminate
all of these groups of people from
qualifying for car loans they ended up
with lots full of cars.
But GMAC has announced that they are
changing the auto loan process. They are
going to accept auto loan applications for
those with lower credit bureau scores. In
fact, they now say that they are
interested in offering car loans to those
under a score of 620 – which is really
subprime. There are two camps with this
announcement. There is the one that says
that this is great because more people can
afford car loans now; and there is the one
that says that in doing so they are
putting us back in danger territory.
They argue that by offering the subprime
car loan they are simply setting the
industry up for failure – and they don’t
like it. GMAC says that they have to
loosen their standards because there are
people out there that desperately need a
car loan and they have to be able to get
it.
