Low Cost Auto Insurance
Nevada knows that the people of their
state are struggling financially, as
they are across the country. But they
have seen the rates for auto insurance
and they know that for some people it
will come down to auto insurance or
food. So they are trying to make it a
bit easier on these residents so that
they do not have to make that choice. It
can be tough to know which one to pick
at times, but a new program that they
are trying to implement might help them
out.
The Nevada Assembly has been working on
a bill for some time that has finally
passed that will implement a low cost
auto insurance program. This pilot
program will lower the requirements for
auto insurance limits so that people
could pay less for their auto insurance
so that at least they have something if
they are in an accident. Right now state
law requires $15,000 per person and
$30,000 for two for bodily injury and
then $10,000 more for property damage.
The new Assembly Bill 299 would make it
$10,000 per person for bodily injury or
death, $20,000 for two or more people,
and $3,000 for property damage. This
will cut the cost of auto insurance
drastically, and will be supplemented by
an assessment on motor vehicle liability
policies. The insurance commissioner
will need to make sure that there is
enough of a rate being charged that all
losses will be covered, and you have to
make below federal poverty levels and
have a car that is worth less than
$20,000.
