Senators
Suppressing Bills That Would Help Children
It seems that there are
several auto insurance bills sitting in
the Michigan Senate that Senators such as
Wayne Kuipers and others have decided to
bury, even though they could do much good
for children. It seems that the auto
insurance industry has the Senators’
pockets filled so high that they are
unable to help those that cannot speak for
themselves. Instead they are working to
protect the interests of the auto
insurance companies instead.
There are four different bills sitting out
there that won’t ever get voted on if the
Senators’ have their way. The first is a
bill that would give those children and
infants that have been injured in
automobile accidents more time to present
symptoms. Many times it is hard to tell
what damage has been done to a small child
in a major accident as they are too young
to tell, and by giving them more time the
children could get the help they need.
Instead, the auto insurance companies
don’t want to have to pay for damages, so
they want to keep the bill out of the
public eye. The bill would simply put
another year on the state of limitations,
but that is too much for the auto
insurance companies. They would rather
line their pockets than pay for much
needed medical care for a child.
This is not the only bill either. There is
one that would protect those that have
been injured by drunk drivers, one that
would make auto insurance companies pay
for family members who have had to stay
home to care for a severely injured member
of their family. And finally, a bill that
would make auto insurance companies pay in
full all medical bills that are sent by
medical care providers from auto
accidents.
The auto insurance companies and
Michigan’s Senators should be embarrassed
and ashamed of themselves. When profit is
more important than people, everyone
loses.
