Pet Auto
Insurance?
When you take out auto
insurance on you and your loved ones, did
it ever occur to you to include your pet
in that insurance policy? Well one car
insurance company did. Progressive Corp.
auto insurance is now offering collision
coverage for customers’ dogs and cats at
no additional premium cost.
The auto insurance company, based in
Mayfield, will pay up to $500 if a
customers’ dog or car is injured or killed
in a car accident. The company says that
they believe that they are probably the
only ones offering the additional benefit
on their auto insurance policies, and
don’t know yet if it will be cost
effective or not.
The auto insurance company just started
offering the policies this past September
so they don’t know if the amount that it
will cost them will be worth it, as they
have no way of knowing the cost yet. They
are assuming however, that people will
want the extra auto insurance and the fact
that they are offering it will bring them
more clients.
As a rule, auto insurance covers property,
liability, and medical coverage, but not
usually pets. Experts say that they are
not aware of any other auto insurance
company offering the benefit either, but
they do think that it is an interesting
idea. They also say that they think it is
one benefit that people will be willing to
switch auto insurance carriers to get.
