Residents Want Uninsured Punished

It would seem that drivers in the UK are asking their governmental officials to do something about the fact that there are so many uninsured drivers out there. They say that if there were harsher penalties for those who choose to go without car insurance then less people would do it.

Their argument is that they are paying more for their car insurance because other people are choosing not to pay at all – which is true. In fact, according to a recent study, UK drivers are paying an average of 31 pounds a year more for their car insurance to cover those that are opting not to get it.

They also have a problem because this amount that they are paying extra for their car insurance and it isn’t even covering car accidents that are caused by those without auto insurance. The survey showed that at least one in ten drivers had been in an accident with an uninsured driver.

Right now the average fine for operating a motor vehicle without car insurance is 250 pounds, and the majority of drivers feel that is too low. More than 79% felt the fine should be higher, and 87% of them feel that the government could do more to keep people from driving without auto insurance.

They feel that if more was done to stop people from driving without car insurance, then their auto insurance costs would go down. They feel that car insurance companies would be able to do more with pricing – so they want their government to step in.
