Bad Credit
Does Not Mean You Can’t Get a Car Loan
Many people
have less than perfect, or even bad
credit, so they don’t think that they can
get an auto loan. Or they want to get the
auto loan, but are sure that the interest
will be so high that they won’t be able to
afford the car either way. This is not
necessarily the case any longer as auto
loan financiers have come up with ways to
give auto loans to that portion of the
population that would not have previously
been able to get one.
When you go to the auto dealership,
firstly you have to be honest about what
kind of car you can afford. You might want
a brand new Hummer, but you might be able
to afford a Cavalier – be honest with what
you can afford so that you don’t ruin your
credit even more by taking on an auto loan
that you cannot really afford to pay.
When you go to the dealership, know how
much money you want to spend on the car.
Don’t tell them an amount per month, as
they can always change payment terms, etc.
so that you get a lower payment per month
but end up paying it over six years. If
you tell them as soon as you get there how
much you can afford for a car, they won’t
waste your time and theirs shopping for
something you cannot afford.
Be honest with your salesperson, tell them
what kind of shape your credit is in, they
will be able to tell you if you have a
shot at their dealership or not. Don’t be
discouraged, you may need to go to several
dealerships to see who is willing to give
you an auto loan. However, do be careful
about letting them all run your credit as
many credit checks will decrease your
credit score as well. Ask them if they get
many bad credit auto loans, and if they
say yes ask them the numbers of successful
cases so that you can be sure that they
aren’t just trying to sell you a car.
