Auto
Insurance For School
It is always a sad and
scary time for parents as their children
leave the nest and head off to college,
and that is usually because their “babies”
are leaving the nest. However, there is
some real reasons to be concerned,
considering your children are leaving home
and will be on their own.
On the list of things that you discuss
with your child make sure that one of them
is auto insurance. As kids head off with
their cars, it is important to remember
that auto insurance will not only help pay
for the damages incurred because of an
accident, but it will also cover wrongful
death claims, heaven forbid there should
be a reason for that.
You must be sure to get liability auto
insurance, uninsured/underinsured, and
medical payments. Depending on the year of
the car, you may want collision as well.
Some states do not require them to drive,
but you should take care of your needs,
not necessarily what might be required.
Talk to your auto insurance agent about
limits and premiums, as well as
deductibles. You can usually save yourself
some money by getting all of them lower,
but if you are in an accident you are
going to wish you had the extra auto
insurance coverage.
One other thing to note, if you are
planning on paying your child’s auto
insurance bill, make them an offer they
can’t refuse. You can tell them that you
will pay for their auto insurance until
they get their first ticket and then they
are on their own (almost 100% guaranteed
to work), and/or get a high deductible –
which will save you money, and let your
child know that you will pay premiums but
if they are in an accident, they will be
responsible for the deductible.
